Leader of Iraq’s Assaeb Ahl Al-Haq resistance group Sheikh Qais Khazali called for fulfilling constitutional process in the Arab country, stressing that forming a new government is the key for solving the current crises.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Sheikh Kazali said the Hashd Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) has proven once again that it is the safety valve of the state, lauding the responsible behavior of the paramilitary force during the latest crisis.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi politician said that all those who shot at security forces and violated law during the latest protests must be held accountable.
“It’s important that the Parliament convene again and the government be formed according to constitutional measures,” he said in remarks carried by Al-Manar.
Iraq witnessed in the last few days high tensions as deadly clashes erupted by supporters of cleric Sayyed Muqtada Al-Sadr and security forces in Baghdad’s Green Zone.
On Monday, Sayyed Al-Sadr said he was quitting political life in Iraq. Dozens were killed or injured in the clashes, including protesters and security servicemen despite curfew in Baghdad.
Security was restored on Tuesday as Sayyed Al-Sadr called on protesters to withdraw from streets and Parliament.
Al-Sadr’s supporters have been participating in a sit-in outside the Iraqi parliament since the end of July when they stormed the building and stopped Al-Sadr’s rivals, the Coordination Framework Alliance, from appointing a new prime minister.
