Three were wounded on Wednesday as a result of a drone attack on a major highway in the vicinity of the city of Erbil in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
Al Mayadeen correspondent reported that an explosion was heard in the vicinity of Erbil Airport and the US Consulate building.
In a statement, the Directorate General of Counter-Terrorism in the region indicated that “an explosive-laden drone hit Erbil-Pirmam road at 9:35 pm, slightly injuring three people. It also damaged a restaurant and a number of vehicles.”
On his part, the Health Minister of the region, Saman Barzanji, said no serious injuries were reported, adding that three citizens were slightly injured and were being treated.
No side has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Lawk Ghafuri, a spokesperson for the Iraqi Kurdistan region government tweeted that “investigations are ongoing by the security forces.”
CEO of Erbil International Airport, Ahmed Hoshyar, told Rudaw news agency that neither the airport nor the flights have not been affected by the attack.
In the same context, the Prime Minister of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, Masrour Barzani, said he held a phone conversation with the Iraqi PM Mustafa Al-Kadhimi following the attack.
