German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, on Tuesday, that Germany will send infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to Greece so that the Greek government can transfer Soviet-style weapons to Ukraine.

After a two-day EU summit in Brussels, Scholz told reporters that “We will provide Greece with German infantry fighting vehicles”.

Scholz did not specify what type of infantry fighting vehicles Berlin will provide to Greece or what weapons Athens will provide to Kiev.

“The defense ministries will work out the details and quickly implement this agreement,” he added.

Berlin intends to deliver to Greece 100 old Marder IFVs owned by Rheinmetall (RHMG.DE), according to a defense source.

Athens would supply Ukraine with Soviet-style BMP IFVs in exchange, media reports said.

It is worth mentioning that Germany has been chastised for delaying heavy arms deliveries to Kiev, despite the fact that half of Germans are against delivering heavy arms to Ukraine, according to a recent poll by the German Institute for New Social Answers.
