Lebanese President Michel Aoun has asked Russian Ambassador Alexander Rudakov for satellite images from Aug. 4, 2020, when a huge explosion rocked Beirut Port.
“The President referred to the position announced by President Vladimir Putin a few days ago regarding Russia’s readiness to provide Lebanon with satellite images of the day of the Beirut Port explosion,” Lebanese Presidency Office announced on Friday.
“President Aoun officially asked Ambassador Rudakov to inform Russian authorities of the Lebanese desire to obtain these photos, so they may provide additional data that could benefit the judicial investigation into the crime,” the office added.
The Russian ambassador, for his part, promised to convey the presidential request to the Russian leadership, so that they can proceed in what is convenient.
President Aoun and Rudakov also deliberated the existing cooperation between Lebanon and Russia in the field of energy.
The Lebanese president welcomed the desire expressed by Russian companies to work with the Lebanese state, especially with regard to the oil refineries in Tripoli and Zahrani, provided that a full and comprehensive study on the matter would be prepared, the presidency office added.
