Iraq’s military condemned on Monday US air strikes on the border with Syria as a ‘breach of sovereignty’, as the Hashd Shaabi paramilitary force said it reserve right of retaliation against the US attack.
In a rare criticism by the Iraqi military, spokesman Yahya Rasoul condemned US air strikes, saying they constitute a breach of Iraq’s sovereignty.
Meanwhile on Monday Hashd Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces or PMF) denounced the attack which killed 4 of the paramilitary force’s fighters.
In a statement, the PMF said the US strikes struck three positions belonging to its forces 13 kms inside the Iraqi territories in Anbar’s Al-Qaem.
The aggression led to the martyrdom of four PMF fighters, who were performing their routine duty in preventing infiltration of ISIL terrorists from Syria to Iraq, the statement said.
The statement denied what the Pentagon has claimed that the strikes struck munition depots belonging to the Hashd Shaabi.
The paramilitary force also stressed it reserves its legitimate right to retaliate for these attacks and hold the perpetrators accountable, according to the statement.
