Iran’s outgoing President Hasan Rouhani praised Iranian voters for their “epic” presence in the Friday’s presidential election, saying the magnificent turnout has disappointed the enemies and ill-wishers.
In a message on Saturday, Rouhani said the Iranian nation’s participation in one of the country’s major and decisive political events signifies a new pledge of allegiance to the aspirations of late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei.
“The enemy’s psychological warfare failed to prevent the Iranian people from attending the elections,” he said, adding that the magnificent turnout has further disheartened and disappointed the foes and ill-wishers.
Rouhani also praised the Iranian nation for the “patience and fortitude in the face of the enemy’s economic war and cruel pressures,” and wished the winner of the election success in his post, Tasnim news agency reported.
The Interior Ministry announced in a statement on Saturday morning that Ebrahim Raeisi has garnered over 17.8 million votes out of more than 28.6 million ballots with more than 90% of the votes counted.
More than 59,310,000 Iranians were eligible to vote.
The 13th presidential election was held simultaneously with the 6th City and Village Councils elections, midterm elections for the 5th Assembly of Experts, and midterm elections for the 11th Parliament.
