Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi once again made it clear that Tehran rejects any new talks on the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
In an interview with Al-Massirah TV channel on Wednesday, Araqchi stressed that Iran will never accept renegotiation of the accord, known officially as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“We are also opposed to inclusion of any new article or articles to this deal,” Araqchi told the Beirut based Yemeni network.
“Adherence to the nuclear agreement means there must be no word added to or removed from it. This is crystal clear,” he said.
The senior Iranian diplomat went on to say that the US must lift the sanctions on Iran in order to return to the agreement and for Tehran to fully honor the JCPOA commitments.
US unilaterally withdrew from the deal in 2018, with the administration of former president Donald Trump pursued a “maximum pressure” strategy against Tehran by imposing sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
Iran then took its own measures to reduce commitments to the deal in response to US withdrawal as well as failure of European parties to fulfil their commitments.
