Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein arrived in Tehran on Saturday for talks with Iranian officials a day after US launched air strikes on eastern Syria near the border with Iraq.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said Hussein met his counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif as well as other Iranian political and security officials in Tehran.
The visit is the second such one by the Iraqi FM this month. Earlier on February 3, Hussein visited the Iranian capital and met President Hasan Rouhani and Zarif along with other Iranian officials.
Earlier on Thursday, US warplanes launched strike on Eastern Syrian province of Deir Ezzor near the Iraqi border. The Pentagon confirmed the strikes, saying they were targeting “Iranian-backed militia.”
