Lebanese journalist Salem Zahran told Al-Manar on Thursday that a new disaster that seems quite like the Beirut Port blast tragedy may take place at Beirut International Airport, revealing that there has been an oil leak at the airport.
In an interview on Thursday, Zahran said: “At the airport, there is a risk of possible disaster that seems quite like the disaster at the port.”
84 liters of oil have been leaked across Beirut International Airport, and any friction may end up in a new disaster, the journalist told Al-Manar’s morning talk show “Ma’a Al-Hadath”.
He cited documents and letters set by Minister of Public Works Michel Najjar to Pesident Michel Aoun.
These documented must not be abandoned just like other warnings of ammonium nitrate at Beirut Port were dismissed, Zahran stressed.
Lebanon was rocked by massive blast at the capital’s port on August 4, killing nearly 200 people, injuring at least 6,500 others and leaving tens of thousands of people homeless. The blast was caused by a stockpile of ammonium nitrate which was unsafely stored at the port for more than six years, local media reported.
