Lebanese President Michel Aoun voiced determination on Sunday to disclose the truth behind the August 4 massive blasts at Beirut Port.
In an interview with BFM TV Channel that “we had the will to reach a quick conclusion in the investigation related to the explosion that occurred in the Beirut Port on the 4th of August, but we later found that matters are intertwined and require some time.”
“All the assumptions are still valid, and we cannot fail in this matter, so we cannot set aside one possibility without investigating it,” the president said, according to National News Agency (NNA).
Commenting on the formation of the new government, Aoun stressed that what matters to him when forming the government is to start directly implementing reform in the country, denying that Hezbollah is impeding the reform process in the country.
In response to a question about the October 17 protests, the president confirmed that he had listened to people’s demands, saying: “I am the son of this people and I share their anger, and I am not a spectator of it.”
He also highlighted the importance of approving the financial forensic audit, as it would determine the financial responsibilities that violate the laws, which were the starting point for corruption.
On the other hand, Aoun assured that he would not step down because that would create a void in governance.
