Syrian army and allied forces managed on Sunday to advance further in Deir Ezzor, expanding the areas they had established control over a day earlier.
Hezbollah Military Media Center reported that the allied forces expanded the area they had breached on Saturday to reach Deir Ezzor airbase, where they met the airbase’s guards and broke the siege imposed by ISIL.
The media center added that the Syrian army units were working on Sunday to dismantle mines planted by ISIL terrorists alongside the road linking the city of Deir Ezzor with the airbase.
The allied forces also managed to completely control the international Highway linking Deir Ezzor with Damascus. The strategic road also passes through Sukhna and Palamyra cities.
SANA news agency reported meanwhile that heavy losses were inflicted upon ISIL terrorists, quoting civil sources from Deir Ezzor countryside as confirming that large groups of ISIL terrorists including some of their prominent leaders fled away.
