The statement added, “A full year has passed since that heroic epic witnessed by the world, whose hero was the leader of the Battle of the Al-Aqsa Flood, the martyred leader Yahya Sinwar. He concluded his life of jihad and sacrifice advancing, not retreating—steadfast and standing in the heart of the battle, waving his cane and defying the brutality and crimes of the occupation.”
It continued, “A year after the martyrdom of the great national leader, our people, with their patience and steadfastness, and our resistance, with its strength and courage, have accomplished a national achievement.” The statement referred to an agreement that “thwarted all the occupation’s plans in its aggression against our land and our people,” which it said stipulates “an end to the aggression and the war of extermination, starvation, displacement, and ethnic cleansing.” It also claimed the deal, titled “The Flood of the Free,” would see “1,968 Palestinian prisoners breathe freedom and break the arrogance of the Zionist jailer.”
Hamas stated that on this anniversary, it “proudly and fondly recalls his fragrant life and blessed journey.” It described Sinwar as having “lived his life as a mujahid from his youth, steadfast and resolute, defeating his jailers during his 23 years of captivity.” The movement said he “continued his journey of preparation, construction, and planning after his release from prison, until the birth at dawn on October 7, 2023,” and that he “conquered the occupation, shook its entity, and shattered the legend of its army, culminating in his martyrdom on the battlefield.”
The movement affirmed that “the martyrdom of our brother leader Yahya Sinwar, and all the leaders and symbols of the movement who preceded him, will only increase the strength, steadfastness, and determination of the movement, our people, and our resistance to adhere to their approach.”
Hamas noted that “the flame of the Al-Aqsa Intifada will remain burning, pulsing with the spirit of adherence to rights,” and that “its flame will never fade in the souls of our great people, no matter how great the sacrifices.” It added, “We are committed to the covenant of our martyred leaders. The banner will never fall; it will remain flying high, its bearing and defense inherited by all our people until comprehensive liberation and the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
Addressing Sinwar directly, the movement said, “On the first anniversary of your martyrdom, Abu Ibrahim, sleep in peace. You fulfilled your duty and truly fought to lower the enemy’s banner. Although your pure body has disappeared from the land of Gaza, your spirit fills the universe, writing eternal glory for Palestine.” It concluded, “The enemy has failed to achieve its aggressive goals on the proud land of Gaza and was forced, humiliated, to a ceasefire.”
Hamas ended the statement by saying, “Mercy, glory, and eternity to the soul of the martyred hero Yahya Sinwar (Abu Ibrahim) and all the martyrs, leaders, and sons of our people and nation. We ask God Almighty to grant them the highest level of Paradise with the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. And what excellent companions they are.”
