Lebanon’s Grand Jaafari Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qabalan addressed on Sunday a message to President Joseph Aoun in which he affirmed the priority of safeguarding the resistance and the internal integrity.
The prominent cleric stressed in his message to the Lebanese president the urgent need for political unity in Lebanon amid heightened regional tensions.
Sheikh Qabalan emphasized that Lebanon is under existential threat from both internal divisions and external pressures
He called for a focus on national security and unity over sectarian interests, highlighting the importance of resistance in safeguarding sovereignty.
“Mr. President, my message to you is an address to a national guarantor more than a constitutional guarantor. The moment is to protect this country, which thrives on consensus, political convergence, and the conditions for sincere national action. The issue here is not the national action charter, but rather what is necessary for the survival of a nation besieged on all sides by hungry international and regional wolves. Security concerns should take precedence over all other priorities, superseding everything else,” Sheikh Qabalan wrote in the message.

The cleric’s appeal underscored the necessity for coordinated efforts among all political factions, especially calling for collaboration with Speaker Nabih Berri, whom he credited as a trans-sectarian figure with a history of fostering national dialogue.
Sheikh Qablan pointed to the legendary steadfastness of the resistance in the last war, compared to the size of the Israeli-NATO arsenal.
Such steadfastness “confirmed that the resistance is a strategic deterrent force.”
“The Israeli forces tried desperately during the last war to occupy a border town like Khiyam, but he could not,” he said, referring to the 66-day Israeli war on Lebanon between September and November 2024.
“The issue is how to protect Lebanon, not how to burn it. In this regard, the resistance is a historical and fateful guarantee for the country, and abandoning it is abandoning the most important reason for Lebanon’s survival.”
Earlier this month, Last week, the Lebanese Government approved “objectives” of a US plan to disarm Hezbollah, yielding to US and Israeli pressures.
The cabinet session on August 7 followed another session on August 5, in which the Lebanese Government tasked the Lebanese Army with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the State by the end of the year.
The Lebanese State has been subjected to unprecedented pressure by the United States, the first sponsor of the Zionist entity, to tackle the issue of disarming Hezbollah.
The Israeli enemy continues to bomb Lebanon, mainly the country’s south, almost daily and maintains occupation over five posts along the southern border, in violation of a ceasefire deal reached following a brutal 66-day Israeli war between September and November 2024.
