The Lebanese cabinet is to convene on Thursday at Baabda Presidential Palace to tackle the latest US proposal on the so-called “disarming Hezbollah.”
Local media reported that “up till now”, ministers representing Hezbollah and Amal Movement will attend the session.
Environment Minister Tamara Al-Zein of the Amal Movement and Health Minister Rakan Nasserddine of Hezbollah are supposed to attend the session, unless certain developments take place, Al-Binaa Newspaper reported.
The Lebanese Government, on Tuesday, tasked the Lebanese Army on Tuesday with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the State by the end of the year.
The two ministers, Al-Zein and Nasserddine, walked out of Tuesday’s session in rejection of the government’s decision.
Hezbollah issued a statement on Wednesday, in which it declared that the resistance party will deal with the decision “as though it does not exist.”
The statement maintained that the decision weakens Lebanon’s capabilities and position in the face of ongoing American-Israeli aggression, and grants ‘Israel’ what it failed to achieve through its war on Lebanon. It added that the decision contradicts with the National Pact, President Joseph Aoun’s inauguration speech, and the ministerial statement.
For its part, Amal Movement affirmed that PM Nawaf Salam’s government is acting contrary to the President’s inaugural address and its own ministerial statement.
In a statement, the movement called Thursday’s session as “an opportunity for correction.”
On the other hand, Vice President of the Higher Shiite Council (HSC), Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib called on the Lebanese Government to “undo the mistake” it made.
In remarks carried by Al-Manar, Sheikh Al-Khatib said: “We won’t leave our land occupied, our villages violated, and our people an easy target for the enemy. We advise against adopting this position, which will lead to undesirable consequences. Paying the price to preserve national sovereignty, no matter how high, is much less than surrender.”

The Lebanese State has been in the latest months subjected to unprecedented pressure by the US, the first sponsor of the Zionist entity, to tackle the issue of “disarming Hezbollah.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli enemy continues to bomb Lebanon, mainly the country’s south, almost daily and maintains occupation over five posts along the southern border, in violation of a ceasefire deal reached following a brutal 66-day Israeli war between September and November 2024.
