Pakistan launched multiple drone attacks and other munitions along India’s western border overnight between Thursday and Friday, according to an Indian army statement. Pakistani forces also reportedly violated ceasefire agreements along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, the de facto border dividing the disputed Himalayan territory between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
The situation has prompted India to close 27 airports in its northern regions until May 10, with approximately 430 civilian flights canceled on Thursday alone, state broadcaster DD News reported. Pakistan had not issued an official response to India’s allegations at the time of reporting.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated this week after India announced “Operation Sindoor” late Tuesday night, saying it struck “terrorist infrastructure” at nine locations in Pakistan.
The Pakistani military said 31 people were killed in the Indian missile attacks and cross-border firing in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
At least 16 people were killed along the Line of Control in the Indian-administered Kashmir, according to officials.
