The US Central Command (Centcom) has announced that American forces have launched a fresh strike, targeting an alleged radar site used by the Ansarullah movement in Yemen.
The strike, carried out by the USS Carney (DDG 64) using Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles, follows previous one on January 12.
Reports from multiple sources indicate that the airstrikes targeted the vicinity of Sanaa airport and its surrounding areas, north of the Yemeni capital. According to CNN, a US official revealed that this strike was conducted unilaterally by the United States and was of a smaller scale compared to previous actions.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held an emergency session in New York, at Russia’s request, to address the escalating crisis in the Middle East and the recent aggression by the US and UK in Yemen.
Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, condemned the joint strikes as “blatant armed aggression against another country,” asserting that they deviated from the right to self-defense. Nebenzia emphasized that the actions of the coalition violated the United Nations Charter and the Law of the Sea regarding freedom of navigation.
Brig. Gen. Saree warned that “Yemen won’t hesitate to target sources of threat and all hostile targets in the land the sea in defense of the national sovereignty and independence.”
“This brutal aggression will not dissuade Yemen from its position to support the oppressed people of Palestine,” the spokesperson affirmed.
Saree then said it clear: “We affirm our decision to go ahead with preventing Israeli ships or those bound for ports in occupied Palestine from navigation in both the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea.
In a similar vein, China’s representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, stated that the region does not require reckless military ventures. He stressed the importance of dialogue, consultation, and restraint, highlighting that the attacks on Yemen have not only destroyed crucial infrastructure but also heightened tensions in an already volatile region. Zhang questioned how these attacks could contribute to a political solution to the Yemeni crisis.
In response to the initial airstrikes carried out by the US and UK on Friday, the Yemeni Ansarullah movement warned that both nations would face a high price for their aggression.
