After fierce overnight clashes, a cautious calm was prevailing in Ain Al-Hilweh Palestinian Refugee Camp, Southern Lebanon, according to Al-Manar reporter who added that the armed confrontation was renewed on Friday afternoon.
The reporter added that Lebanese and Palestinian mediators had managed to quell the confrontation between Fatah Movement and Jund Al-Sham militant group, noting that the clashes were renewed due to the two sides’ rejection of abandoning the UNRWA schools they control in the camp.
Al-Manar reporter explained the the Joint Palestinian Force failed to control UNRWA schools in the camp and that the culprits involved in the killings which the previous round of violence were not handed in to the Lebanese security forces.
The overnight clashes left 25 injuries, massively damaged private and public properties, and forced a large number of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians to evacuate their houses close to the scene of clashes.
It was also remarkable that a large number of artillery shells hit Lebanese public institutions in Sidon City, including the Governmental Serail, General Security office, and the Lebanese University vicinity, causing much losses.
