House Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Thursday that Imam Sayyed Moussa Sadr represented the project of confrontation against the Israeli occupation and unity in face of partition.
Addressing Amal Movement’s ceremony on the forty-fifth anniversary of Imam Sadr’s disappearance, Speaker Berri said, “We are committed to following up all the reports pertaining his case.”
Speaker Berri held Gaddafi regime responsible for the crime of Imam Sadr’s disappearance and blamed the Libyan authorities for concealing the destiny of the Imam.
Regarding the maritime gas file, Speaker Berri expressed his hopes that the excavation process at Block 9 leads to positive outcomes, hailing the sacrifices of the martyrs and the Resistance fighters for paving the way to this achievement.
Politically, the House Speaker reiterated his call to hold a national dialogue before convening the parliament in order to elect a new president, underscoring the necessity of electing a new president before it is too late.
Regionally, Speaker Berri affirmed that the Palestinian cause must remain prior with respect to the Umma, warning against the renewal of clashes in Ain Al-Hilweh refugee camp in Southern Lebanon.
Speaker Berri also voiced support to Syrian in its fight against the terrorist groups, underlining the effect of Iraq’s stability on the regional security.
Speaker Berri finally emphasized that the implementation of the Saudi-Iranian agreement affects the entire region positively, hailing Iraq and China for sponsoring the pact.
Imam Sadr founded the Lebanese Amal (Hope) Movement in 1974. The cleric who is of Iranian descent came to Lebanon in 1959 to work for the rights of Shia Muslims in the port city of Tyre, located about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Beirut.
His eminence disappeared on August 31, 1978, during an official visit to the Libyan capital Tripoli.
He was accompanied by Sheikh Mohammad Yaqoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine.
Lebanon still holds former Libyan authorities under rule of dictator Moammar Gaddafi responsible for the disappearance of the trio.
Since Gaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011, Lebanon and Iran have repeatedly called on the Libyan government to launch an investigation into Sadr’s disappearance.
