Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid Pays Visit to Iran and Holds Talks with President Ebrahim Raisi
On Saturday morning, Iraq’s President Abdul Latif Rashid arrived in Tehran, Iran, with a high-ranking delegation for his first official visit to the neighboring country since taking office in October 2022.
Rashid and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Iranian Raisi during a ceremony at the Saadabad Palace.
Following the welcoming reception, the two counterparts held talks, with economic, trade, monetary, and banking issues, along with the export of electricity and gas, being among the matters of discussion on the agenda.
President Raisi emphasized the common positions of Tehran and Baghdad on mutual, regional, and international relations, and expressed his belief that these positions could help further promote ties between the two nations at the regional and international levels.
Iran and Iraq share a border and have long-standing historical, cultural, and religious ties. The visit by President Rashid comes in response to an official invitation by President Raisi, and follows a recent visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani to Iran last October, just a month after he took office, to discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region.
