The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced twelve new cases of cholera, three of whom are receiving treatment at Halba Governmental Hospital.
In the details, five of the infected had contact with the first infection that was recorded last week, while six patients had mild symptoms that are being followed medically.
The ministry confirmed that all the infections are from the Akkar region and efforts are underway to try to contain the spread of the epidemic.
Verifications are underway to confirm 41 cases in Arsal and Zgharta.
Earlier in the day, Lebanese Prime Minister designate Najib Mikati followed up with Minister of Public Health Firas Abiad on cholera infections and the measures taken by the ministry to treat the infected and limit the spread of the epidemic.
Mikati called the Ministers of Health, Interior, Municipalities, Energy, Environment and Agriculture to a meeting to follow up on this file.
Abiad also toured the Akkar region, where he visited one of the camps for the displaced Syrians and Al-Rassi Governmental Hospital.
Abiad was briefed on the health situation and cholera cases in the region.
Lebanon registered on Thursday the first cholera case for a Syrian refugee, the first in Lebanon since 1993.
