The Lebanese parliament convened on Thursday to discuss the draft state budget law as submitted by the caretaker government.
The lawmakers’ speeches concentrated on the various aspects of the socioeconomic crisis that has been plaguing Lebanon since 2019.
Head of Loyalty to Resistance bloc Hajj Mohammad Raad indicated that the submitted budget highlights the extent of the economic crisis, adding that the US siege on Lebanon is worsening the situation.
MP Raad called on the government to raise the employees’ salaries in order to enable them to cope with the inflation crisis, underling the importance of sustaining the governmental regularity.
Member of Loyalty to Resistance bloc MP Ali Fayyad, for his part, indicated that the Resistance readiness to confront any aggression on Lebanon’s maritime rights have forced the US mediator to ameliorate his way of communicating with the Lebanese.
MP Fayyad pointed out that the maritime gas resources will enable Lebanon to surpass the economic ordeal in a short duration that ranges between 3 to 5 years, adding that, otherwise, Lebanon will need 10 to 15 years in order to witness an economic recovery.
It is worth noting that House Speaker Nabih Berri told the lawmakers that he would call on the parliament to convene to elect a new president whenever he finds a minimum agreement among the various blocs
