Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani stressed on Sunday that is the only way to save Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In a tweet on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Zionists, Nasser Kanaani said “all mosques around the world will remain as the centers of anti-Zionism resistance until the full liberation of Palestine.”
“53 years ago on August 21, 1969, the Zionists set fire to Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first Qibla of Muslims, and this was not the first and last crime of the occupiers of Palestine,” the Iranian spokesman tweeted in Persian.
August 21 marks the 53rd anniversary of a terrible attack against Al-Aqsa Mosque, when a Protestant extremist from Australia named Denis Michael Rohan set fire to the holy site in Jerusalem al-Quds, destroying large parts of the site and irreplaceable artifacts.
The 12th century Minbar (platform) of al-Aqsa Mosque was destroyed in the fire.
The event has been described as an act that plunged the Middle East into its worst crisis since the June, 1967, Arab-Israel war, and was a key catalyst for the creation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
