The US State Department said senior advisor for energy security Amos Hochstein will Lebanon next week for talks on maritime dispute with the Zionist entity.
In a statement, the State Department said Hochstein will visit Lebanon June 13-14 to “discuss the country’s energy crisis and underscore Washington’s hope that Beirut and Israel can reach a decision delimiting their maritime boundary.”
“The Administration welcomes the consultative and open spirit of the parties to reach a final decision, which has the potential to yield greater stability, security, and prosperity for both Lebanon and Israel, as well as for the region,” the statement said.
Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri said earlier this week that the US envoy will visit Lebanon on Sunday or Monday as tensions were high over the arrival of the Greek firm Energean’s FPSO near the disputed maritime zone.
Energean signed in 2018 an agreement with the Zionist entity to drill and extract gas and oil in occupied Palestine’s offshore, and the disputed field of Karish.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah warned the Israeli regime that the Lebanese Resistance movement is capable of preventing Tel Aviv from extracting gas and oil in the disputed area.
Washington began mediating indirect talks over disputed maritime border between Lebanon and the Zionist entity in 2020.
