The Lebanese parliament, elected on May 15, 20222, held on Tuesday its first session to vote for a Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and the members of its bureau.
After re-electing Nabih Berri as the House Speaker for the seventh time, the parliament voted for his deputy.
As a result, MP Elias Abou Saab won deputy speaker post after securing, in the second round, 65 votes while his competitor Ghassan Skaff garnered only 60 votes.
The parliament, then, started voting for the members of its bureau; however, debates among the lawmakers about the Constitutional rules that govern the election delayed the vote.
Member of Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc, MP Ali Ammar criticized the debates, considering that they send a negative message to the Lebanese people.
By acclamation, the two MPs Alain Aoun and Hadi Abu Al-Hosn were elected as parliament secretaries, and MPs Agop Pakradonian, Michel Mousa and Karim Kabbara were chosen as members of the parliament bureau committee.
It is worth noting that Speaker Nabih Berri scheduled another session to elect the parliamentary committees next Tuesday, June 7.
