Israeli occupation authorities announced the closure of its sole pedestrian crossing with the Gaza Strip on Saturday, citing alleged rocket attack from the besieged coastal enclave overnight on Friday.
“Following the rockets that were fired toward Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip last night, it was decided that crossings into Israel for Gazan merchants and workers through the Erez Crossing will not be permitted this upcoming Sunday,” the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, known by its acronym COGAT, said in a statement.
“The re-opening of the crossing will be decided in accordance with a security situational assessment,” COGAT added.
The last week has seen violent clashes at Al-Aqsa Mosque between Palestinian worshipers and Israeli occupation forces who were securing the break-ins of Zionist settlers into the holy site for the Jewish Passover. Hundreds of Palestinians were injured or arrested by occupation police.
