The foreign minister of Iran denounced the double standards and the muted response from a number of governments and international organizations on Palestine as the factor encouraging the apartheid Zionist regime to keep violating the rights of Palestinians.
Hussein Amir abdollahian on Wednesday sent separate letters to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Taha Hussein, and the foreign ministers of Islamic countries, in which he said the double standard and silence of some governments and international organizations toward Palestine embolden the apartheid Israeli regime to further violate the human rights of the Palestinian people.
Amir abdollahian also expressed deep concern about the recent events in Palestine including the crimes of the Zionist regime and its desecration of the first Qibla of the Muslims and its brutal raid on fasting Palestinian worshippers that led to the injury and arrest of hundreds of them, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The top Iranian diplomat said that any sacrilege and desecration of the holy sites that are revered by Muslims and the hurting of the feelings of the Islamic Ummah and Muslim countries is deplorable and intolerable.
He further condemned in the strongest terms the latest acts of the Zionists as a flagrant sign of the fixed heinous policy of the Zionist regime aimed at changing the identity of al-Quds.
Amir abdollahian stressed that Iran, by drawing inspiration from the pure teachings of the holy religion of Islam and other divine faiths and in line with international law, has made continued support of the liberation struggle and resistance of the Palestinian people as an unchanging component of its foreign policy in order to realize the full rights of Palestinians.
The Iranian foreign minister further supported the April 15, 2022 communiqué of the Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation regarding the recent developments in Palestine.
He said the double standard and silence of some governments and international organizations toward Palestine embolden the apartheid Israeli regime to intensify its inhumane acts and violate human rights and also the humanitarian rights of the Palestinian people.
Underlining the necessity of immediate and decisive action by the international community and the United Nations, especially the UN Security Council, to fulfill their responsibilities in support of the resistance of the Palestinian people, Amir abdollahian called on the UN to put the developments that have unfolded in occupied Palestine in the past two weeks on its immediate agenda.
The top Iranian diplomat finally stressed that establishment of lasting and fair peace in the region is only possible through a complete end to the occupation of Palestine, the return of all refugees to their homeland, the determination of the future ruling system of Palestine based on a referendum in which all main residents thereof participate, and finally the formation of an independent and inclusive Palestinian government with al-Quds as its capital as per the political roadmap registered by Iran with the Secretariat of the United Nations.
Tensions have flared in Palestine in recent days after Israeli police raided the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
At least 170 Palestinians have been wounded and hundreds of others arrested since Israeli forces launched incursions into the mosque compound for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians have protested Israeli occupation forces breaking into al-Aqsa Mosque, chanting slogans and calling for Arab and international support for al-Aqsa Mosque worshippers and those in the occupied territories facing intensified Israeli violence against Palestinians.
