Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that China can see threats coming from the West.
“China understands what’s going on perfectly well. It understands the threats to the Chinese people that are coming from countries and alliances acting based on such logic,” she told the Soloviev Live program.
The Russian diplomat noted, meanwhile, that the unification of mainland China and Taiwan was not in the United States’ interests.
“Just a few years ago, China was close to it, talks were taking place at the highest level, the parties were celebrating national holidays together and a clear agenda was declared aimed at consolidating common efforts,” Zakharova said, as quoted by TASS news agency.
“However, overseas ‘friends’ don’t like it,” she said. According to the Russian diplomat, Washington is deliberately pumping Taiwan with weapons in order to retain “tools that the US has to create permanent problems in the region.”
Zakharova emphasized that the US seeks to strengthen its foothold in the Asia-Pacific Region, creating tensions around Australia, providing the country with nuclear-powered submarines and establishing new trilateral alliances, she stressed.
