Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Sunday that during his meeting in Tehran with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the two sides discussed the acceleration of Basra-Shalamcheh railway project joining Iran to Iraq.
Raisi made the remarks speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Iraqi prime minister.
He said that the Iraqi prime minister has ordered the Iraqi related officials to give a boost to the strategic Basra-Shalamcheh railway project.
The Iraqi prime minister has also promised to allow more Iranian pilgrims into Iraq to attend Arbaeen rituals, voicing again gratitude to Iran for helping Iraq overcome ISIL terrorist group.
Iraq had previously announced that the country would receive 30,000 pilgrims from Iran for Arbaeen.
Raisi hailed the cordial relations between Iran and Iraq, noting that bilateral relations between the two countries can further increase in all areas.
He said that relations between Iran and Iraq are not limited to the two countries and rather affect regional and international equations.
The president said that al-Kadhimi had talked about the cancellation of visa requirements between the two countries which he said was good news.
Raisi added that they also discussed monetary and financial relations.
