A high-ranking meeting was held on Saturday in Damascus between Lebanese and Syrian officials who discussed the wobbly economic conditions in the two countries.
The Lebanese delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister, Caretaker Minister of National Defense, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Zeina Akar, included also caretaker Ministers of Finance and Energy Ghazi Wazni and Raymond Ghajar, in addition to Director General of Public Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim. On the other hand, the Syrian side was represented by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Miqdad, Finance Kinan Yaghi, and Oil Resources Bassam Toameh. The meeting was also attended by Lebanese Ambassador to Syria Saad Zakhia, Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali, and the Secretary-General of the Syrian-Lebanese Supreme Council, Nasri Al-Khoury.
The Lebanese delegation asked the Syrian officials to help Lebanon import the Egyptian gas and the Jordanian electric power through Syria’s territory. Syria welcomed the Lebanese demand, and the two sides agreed on forming technical teams to discuss the implementation of the project.
