Progressive Socialist Party Chief, Walid Jumblatt, said after his meeting with the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, at the Presidential Palace in Baabda on Saturday that “the number of ministers in the new government is no longer important, and we are only counting on what remains of the French initiative.”
“We have reached an absolute stalemate in the midst of the economic collapse, with hunger knocking on people’s doors,” he added, stressing that “reconciliation has become necessary, and I am not commissioned by anyone to say this.”
Lebanon is witnessing a major political crisis as President Aoun and the premier-designate Saad Hariri have failed to reach an agreement on the creation of the new government.
Hariri was tasked to form the new government on October 22, 2021, after he was nominated by 65 MPs during the parliamentary consultations held by President Aoun at Baabda Palace.
