The caretaker health minister, Dr. Hamad Hasan on Sunday highlighted the positivity of the decrease in the number of coronavirus cases, stressed that the dramatic surge in the Covid-19 figures had pushed the Lebanese authorities to approve the total lockdown.
To face this increase in the coronavirus cases, the Lebanese authorities extended a total lockdown that had started on January 14 and would be enforced till February 8. Meanwhile, the daily coronavirus report issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Public Health indicated a remarkable decrease in the number of infections from around 6000 (during the previous weeks) to 2631 cases.
Dr. Hasan made his statements while opening the coronavirus section at Charity Hospital in Deir Al-Ahmar as the member of the Lebanese Forces parliamentary bloc, Antoine Habshi, hailed the minister’s speedy response to the hospital’s need.
“This proves that the political forces can cooperate in all what serves the citizens’ interests despite their contradictory viewpoints.”
Meanwhile, MP Michel Al-Murr, 89, died on Sunday after 45 days of struggles against the coronavirus.
NNA reported that two brothers, who used to work as nurses at one of Beirut hospitals, also died on the same day after contracting the coronavirus.
