The next US administration can return to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal under certain conditions, an Iranian deputy foreign minister said, noting that Tehran makes decisions with regard to its own interests.
In an interview with IRNA, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the road for the administration of US President-elect Joe Biden to return to the JCPOA is not closed, although there are challenges.
The US’ return to the JCPOA has regulations and conditions, the Iranian diplomat added, stressing that negotiations must be held beforehand.
Iran waits to see whether the Zionists and other lobbies would allow the next US administration to shift its policies, and what stances the Biden administration would adopt before making any decision and considering a US request for rejoining the JCPOA, Araqchi noted.
In remarks on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Iranian government reminded the next US administration that the first thing it needs to do to correct Washington’s wrong policies is unconditional commitment to the 2015 nuclear deal, from which Trump withdrew in 2018.
