The daily death toll from coronavirus infection in Iran exceeded 400 for the first time, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat reported 415 new deaths from the novel coronavirus, the second daily record toll in a row in the Middle East’s worst-hit country.
Lari said the new fatalities, 69 above Tuesday’s record toll, brought Iran’s total virus deaths to 33,714.
She said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has risen to 558,648 following the detection of 6,824 new cases since yesterday.
Of the new cases detected since Tuesday, 2,490 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.
At least 467,917 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,012 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.
She further said more than 4,821,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 44 million and the death toll has exceeded 1,170,000.
