Lebanese President Michel Aoun and President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Hassan Diab stressed on Wednesday that a probe into the blasts at Beirut Port has been launched, and that all those responsible for the horrific disaster will be held accountable.
At the beginning of an urgent cabinet session, President Aoun said “no words can describe the horror of the disaster that has hit Beirut last night, turning it to a devastated city. It is time to grieve for our martyrs, wounded and missing.”
The president vowed to hold a transparent investigation into the devastating blasts.
“Nevertheless, the impact of the trauma will not prevent us from affirming to the parents of the martyrs and injured first, then to all the Lebanese, that we are determined to move on with the investigations and expose the circumstances of what happened as soon as possible, to hold the responsible and the negligent accountable, and to sanction them with the most severe punishment. We shall transparently unveil the outcome of the probe that shall be undertaken by the investigation committee and whose results shall be submitted to the competent judiciary.”
For his part, PM Diab described the explosions as a ‘great disaster’, stressing meanwhile, that “it’s time to work now.”
“Probe into Beirut Port blasts has been already launched,” the PM said as he called on Lebanese powers to abandon their disagreements. He also urged the Lebanese media outlets to act responsibly with the current crisis.
Ahead of the cabiet session, President Aoun inspected the scene of the blasts at Beirut Port.
