Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed on Wednesday before noon at Ain El-Tineh Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, the accompanying delegation and the Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Nazih El-Najari with talks featuring high on bilateral relations and regional developments.
Following the meeting, the Egyptian Minister said that he stressed to the parliament Speaker Egypt’s interest in strengthening relations with Lebanon, praising the Speaker’s prominent role in establishing stability in Lebanon and activating its institutions.
Shukri relayed to Speaker Berri the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sissi’s regards and congratulations on ending the presidential vacuum.
“Egypt is interested in Lebanon’s position as an Arab state. Lebanon has always been supporting to solidarity relations among the Arab states and we are working on resuming the strong Egyptian- Lebanese relations,” Shukri said, adding that Speaker Berri had an important initiative in the cooperation framework of between the two countries.
Shukri also met with FM Gebran Bassil and stressed the importance of strengthening the mutual ties, highlighting the achievement of electing Lebanon’s new president.
For his part Bassil hoped forming a national unity government leading to parliamentary elections.
