Yemeni forces carried out a wide-scale operation targeting the Saudi King Khaled air base in Asir’s Khamis Mushait late Monday.
Yemeni armed forces spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced the operation, saying that the Yemeni drones, Qasif K2, hit warplanes’ runways and other military targets in the airbase.
The spokesman noted that the attack comes in response to the continuous Saudi-led aggression, siege imposed against the Arab impoverished country and other crimes committed against the Yemeni people, Al-Massirah TV channel reported.
Yemeni forces have been in the last weeks intensifying missile and drone attacks against Saudi airports and airbases.
Also on Monday Saree vowed that the Saudi strike which killed at least 13 civilians in a crowded market in Saada will not go unanswered.
“The Saudi regime’s crime in Al Thabet market in Qataber district proves this regime’s failure in all fields: the military and the humanitarian,” the spokesman said.
Two children were among the martyrs in the strike, Yemeni sources said, adding that other 23 were also injured.
Yemen has been since March 2015 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led Coalition, in a bid to restore control to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is Riyadh’s ally.
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and injured in the strikes launched by the coalition, with the vast majority of them are civilians.
The coalition, which includes in addition to Saudi Arabia and UAE: Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan and Kuwait, has been also imposing a harsh blockade against Yemenis.
