Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Friday received Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, and the accompanying delegation.
Talks during the meeting focused on the continuous efforts to make progress on the political track, especially in forming a committee for discussing the Constitution and the mechanisms and procedures of its work, and the two sides were in agreement on the need for the two sides to continue working extensively and coordinating on the next steps to achieve the desired results in this framework, stressing the importance of not allowing the countries that are trying to prolong the war on Syria to hinder this process.
The talks also dealt with the latest developments in the war on terrorism and the recent terrorist attacks launched from Idlib against the surrounding safe areas, with the Russian side affirming its support for the Syrian Arab Army in retaliating against these attacks and any provocations carried out by the terrorist groups positioned in Idlib, reiterating Moscow’s support for Syria’s right to defend its citizens, preserve the country’s territorial integrity, and cleanse it from terrorism.
The two sides also discussed regional and international developments, in addition to the strategic relations between the two countries.
