Head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashart, called on Russian President Mahdi Al-Mashat to play a mediating role in a bid to halt the Saudi-led aggression and reach a settlement to the war in the impoverished country.
In a letter delivered to the Russian president, Al-Mashat warned that the Saudi-led coalition, waging aggression against Yemeni since March 2015, has been aiming to take control of all strategic islands and maritime passages in the region “in order to turn it to a pure US lake and control the international trade.”
Al-Mashat stressed that any settlement to the war should be fair and guarantee stability of Yemen, Yemen’s Arabic-language news network reported.
Yemen has been since March 2015 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led Coalition, in a bid to restore control to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is Riyadh’s ally.
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and injured in the strikes launched by the coalition, with the vast majority of them are civilians.
The coalition, which includes in addition to Saudi Arabia and UAE: Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan and Kuwait, has been also imposing a harsh blockade against Yemenis.
