Iranian President Hassan Rouhani lambasted ‘Israel’ for killing and injuring Palestinians, saying such US-backed inhumane crimes have only strengthened the Palestinian nation.
The Israeli regime and the US government should be held accountable for killing people and taking provocative measures in the region, Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, the US president has made a miscalculation on regional issues and thinks he could quell Palestinian people’s resisting movement by supporting the Zionist regime,” Rouhani deplored.
He called on Islamic countries to stand united against Israel’s anti-human measures in Palestine, stressing that such crimes have further unified the Palestinian nation and lays bare the real intents of the US government.
For his part, the Turkish president slammed the Israeli massacre of people in Palestine as a result of the US government’s policies that have encouraged Tel Aviv to commit crimes.
Erdogan also invited his Iranian counterpart to Istanbul for an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stressing that Muslim nations should defend the rights of Palestinians in international organizations.
The US move to relocate its Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) has drawn international condemnation and protests across Palestine.
At least 60 Palestinians were killed on Monday alone, in demonstrations near Gaza border against the US embassy move.
More than 2,700 Palestinians were also wounded as the Israeli forces used snipers, tank fire and tear gas to target the demonstrators.
