Lebanese Interior Ministry said that calm elections kicked off on Sunday amid tight security.
In a statement, the ministry said polling stations across Lebanon “have opened their doors at 7:00 a.m. amid prevailing calm and tight security measures taken by members of the Internal Security Forces inside the stations and elements of the Lebanese Army outside the perimeter of polling stations and on main roads.”
According to the ministry 3,746,483 voters are to cast their ballots in 6793 polling stations across 15 districts.
“The polling stations will remain open to those who wish to vote until 7:00 pm, with the Central Operations Chamber of the Ministry of Interior announcing the voting turnout in all districts respectively,” the ministry added in the statement, according to the National News Agency (NNA).
