Lebanese President Michel Aoun will not take any decision on whether to accept Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s resignation before meeting Hariri himself, Lebanese Justice Minister Salim Jreissati said on Monday.
Following a security meeting held with President Aoun at the Baabda Presidential Palace, Jreissati assured that no unusual security incident took place in the country in the last few days.
The meeting at Baabda palace was also attended by Ministers of Interior and Defense and leaders of security apparatuses.
The minister’s remarks on the security situation comes two days after Hariri resigned citing fears for his life in Lebanon.
Jreissati said that President Aoun ordered full readiness on the judicial and security levels, adding that contacts are ongoing with the political leaderships to deal with the situation that resulted from Hariri’s resignation.
“President Aoun will not take any decision before knowing the circumstances of Hariri’s resignation from the PM himself,” Jreissati told reporters following the meeting.
