Iran has issued a fierce rebuke of former US President Donald Trump, condemning his recent anti-Iran remarks made before the Israeli Knesset as “shameful” and “irresponsible,” just months after a deadly US-Israeli assault on the country.
In a strongly-worded statement on Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry denounced Trump’s address, which was delivered “in the presence of genocidal criminals.” The statement highlighted the stark contradiction between Trump’s offer of a “hand of friendship” and the recent aggressive actions taken by the United States and ‘Israel’.
“How can one, in the midst of political negotiations, attack a country’s residential areas and peaceful nuclear facilities, martyr over one thousand innocent people… and then claim to seek peace and friendship?” the ministry’s statement asked.
The reference was to a 12-day war in June, triggered by an unprovoked Israeli aggression, which resulted in the deaths of at least 1,064 Iranians, including civilians, military commanders, and nuclear scientists. The United States further escalated the conflict by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities.
The ministry labeled the US as “the world’s largest producer of terrorism” and a key supporter of the “terrorist and genocidal Zionist regime,” asserting that Washington holds no moral authority to level accusations against others.
Responding to Trump’s claim that the US wants to “ensure that Iran never… acquires a nuclear weapon,” the statement warned that repeating such falsehoods about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program cannot justify the “joint crimes” of the two nations.
The statement also paid “deep respect” to the “immortal hero,” Martyr Hajj Qassem Soleimani, vowing that Iranians will neither forgive nor forget his “brutal” US assassination. It further emphasized that the US must be held accountable for providing Israel with impunity on the international stage.
Ultimately, the ministry identified US policy as the root cause of regional instability, citing its “interventionist policies, its support for occupation, the crimes of the Israeli regime, and its unrestricted arms transfers” as the primary source of insecurity in West Asia.
