Iranian President Hasan Rouhani called Wednesday on the Muslim world to unite and punish the Saudi government for its handling of the hajj pilgrimage, stressing that the blood of martyrs who fell in Mina incident last year would not go in vain.
“Regional countries and the world of Islam should take coordinated actions to resolve problems and punish the Saudi government,” he told a cabinet meeting, according to the IRNA state news agency.
Neither will the people nor the government forsake the blood of the Iranian Hajj martyrs, the Iranian president said, noting that Tehran will continue with its efforts to follow the case of Mina martyrs through legal and political channels.
” Hajj period should be regarded as a chance to safeguard the interests of the Muslim Ummah and foster unity within the Islamic community whereas the Hajj rituals are used as an occasion to hurt the dignity of Muslims.”
“Those who have gained fame and money by the Holy Shrines have to realize that their true obligation is to provide security and prosperity to pilgrims,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Iranian president said: “This year, Saudi has blocked path to Allah… This crime is to be added to its long list of prior crimes.”
