Head of Hamas politburo Ismail Haniyeh was martyred in the Iranian capital, Tehran early on Wednesday, both the IRGC and the Palestinian resistance group announced.
“The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas mourns to our great Palestinian people, to the Arab and Islamic nation, and to all the free people of the world: Brother, leader, martyr, Mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement, who was martyred in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran,” Hamas said in a statement.
Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) pronounced martyrdom of Haniyeh.
“Early this morning, the residence of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran was struck, resulting in his and one of his body guards’ martyrdom. The cause is under investigation and will be announced soon,” the IRGC said in a statement.

Haniyeh is teh second senior Hamas leader to be assassinated since the start of the war on October 7th. Deputy Head of Hamas’ politburo Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri was martyred in an Israeli strike in Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahiyeh) on January 3rd.
