Pro-Palestine Lebanese activist who spent 40 years in French prisons Georges Abdallah stressed on Thursday that “the resistance alone represents legitimacy and sovereignty.”
In an Interview with Al-Manar, Abdallah described the Lebanese people as “the environment which nurtures the resistance,” adding that the “resistance in Lebanon is the resistance of all Lebanese and everyone who has dignity in this country.”
“The resistance is what forges the national identity, for this identity is built on basis of confronting the occupier.”
The pro-Palestine activist who was freed last July, affirmed: “It is the resistance that decides how it contributes to building the nation-state and the national army.
On the so-called “arms monopoly”, Abdallah stressed that the “issue is not about weapons,” slamming some local sides who join the Israeli enemy in making threats regarding the resistance.
“Those who call for beheadings in Lebanon today are the ones who represent the criminal army and rely on the Israeli enemy, and are therefore the enemy’s spokespersons,” Abdallah told Al-Manar.
Abdallah was freed by French authorities last July after more than 40 years behind bars.
He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 1987 for the assassinations of US military attaché Charles Robert Ray and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov.

While he has always denied direct involvement, Abdallah never distanced himself from the resistance movement he co-founded, the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions, a Marxist group aligned with Palestine and pan-Arab causes that also sought to evict foreign occupation from Lebanese soil.
