The Lebanese parliament convened on Wednesday in a session, chaired by Speaker Nabih Berri, to study and approve the 2024 state budget law amid the ongoing economic crisis plaguing the country.
In light of the high rates of inflation, the draft law proposes raising the taxes value to match the rise of the dollar exchange rate.
However, some members of the parliament noted that the state budget draft law does not include a proportional increase of the employees’ salaries.
In the beginning, a brawl among a number of deputies erupted over the constitutional considerations of the session. Meanwhile, Speaker Berri managed to set heated debate.
A number of deputies addressed the session to discuss the various items of the draft law. In this regard, MP Hasan Fadlallah called for raising the employees’ salaries and urged the government to implement all the healthcare plan as included in the budget law.
