A cabinet session that was scheduled for Thursday failed to convene due to lack of quorum, but a consultative meeting was held instead between Caretaker Premier Najib Mikati and the ministers.
The session was planned to appoint a new central bank governor after the end of Riad Salameh’s term on July 30.
Lebanese caretaker PM Najib Mikati said the Lebanese government could have reached a temporary remedy to an ordeal at the financial level.
Mikati blamed the cancellation of the cabinet session on some sides’ “political calculations.
It is to note that the next cabinet session, set for Monday, is devoted to discuss the 2023 state budget.
