Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday that he had informed his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen of “the need to end the violence at Al-Aqsa Mosque as soon as possible.”
This came during his participation in an iftar event in the central province of Eskisehir.
Cavusoglu pointed out that “sorrow hangs over the month of Ramadan because of the attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
He added that he called his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad al-Maliki, and assured him that Turkish people will continue to stand by Palestinians.
Meanwhile, many people took to streets in Sanliurfa, southern Turkey, rejecting the recent Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian people.
The demonstration took place at the invitation of the New Welfare Party, in the Balikligol area, in which the Turkish and Palestinian flags were raised.
In his speech, the head of the youth wings party in the state, Ismail Dulgar, condemned the Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, voicing solidarity with Palestinian people.
“Our Palestinian brothers are being oppressed by the Israeli occupier in a brazen manner during the holy month of Ramadan,” Dulgar said.
“We condemn this injustice which we see every year in the month of Ramadan,” he added, noting that this issue concerns the entire Ummah (nation).
“We call on Islamic countries to unite against this injustice.”
Al-Quds (Jerusalem) has been witnessing tensions since last week, following the occupation police’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and eviction of worshipers there.
