In the early hours of October 9, the Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas announced a landmark agreement has been reached, leading to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The group declared the deal secures its core demands, marking what senior officials are hailing as a historic victory for the Palestinian cause.
According to the announcement, the agreement realizes Hamas’s non-negotiable conditions: a complete end to the war, the full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, the unfettered entry of humanitarian aid, and a comprehensive prisoner exchange.
Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Rishq called the ceasefire a direct result of “the great sacrifices and legendary patience of our people, as well as the strength and steadfastness of the resistance.” He emphatically stated the deal represents “a national achievement par excellence.”
A Salute to the People and a Renewed Pledge
In a powerful tribute, Hamas’s statement issued a “heart-warming salute” to the Palestinian people everywhere, expressing immense gratitude for their “unparalleled pride, heroism, and honor.”
“We salute our people who confronted the fascist occupation projects,” the statement read. “The great sacrifices and steadfastness of our people have thwarted the Israeli occupation’s plans of subjugation and displacement.”
Despite the truce, the movement renewed its pledge to continue the struggle, vowing it would “not to abandon our people’s national rights until freedom, independence, and self-determination are achieved.”
“We Will Not Abandon Our Prisoners”
Echoing this commitment, Zaher Jabarin, head of the Hamas Martyrs and Prisoners’ Office, confirmed that a list of Palestinian prisoners for release has been submitted to mediators.
“Hamas renews its pledge to our brave prisoners and their families that they will remain at the heart of its priorities,” Jabarin stated. “It will not rest until the last prisoner is freed.”
Credits and Calls
Hamas expressed its appreciation to the mediating nations—Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey—for their efforts in securing the deal. The statement also included a direct call for the United States to compel “Israel” to uphold all its obligations under the truce.
The announcement concludes a long and brutal chapter, framed by Hamas not as a simple cessation of hostilities, but as a strategic triumph. As Izzat al-Rishq concluded, what the occupation failed to secure through “genocide and starvation over two full years, it could not attain through negotiations.”
The ceasefire is expected to take effect at 12:00 PM on Thursday, according to Palestinian Resistance affairs analyst Hani al-Dali.
