Two Israeli occupation soldiers were injured in a stabbing operation near a military base in south of Tel Aviv Tuesday morning.
One of the wounded soldiers was in a serious condition, Israeli media reported, adding that the attack took place near Tzrifin base, close to Rishon Lezion.
The attacker was arrested by occupation forces, The Times of Israeli reported, quoting a statement by the occupation police.
Central police commander Avi Bitton said in a statement at the scene of the attack that the suspect was a 20-year-old from the West Bank city of Al-Khalil (Hebron).
Bitton said the attacker was believed to have acted alone, after initial reports had suggested he may have had an accomplice.
Sacrifices at Al-Aqsa
Hamas resistance movement hailed the operation, linking it to calls by Zionist settlers to sacrifice animals at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the Jewish Passover, which starts on Wednesday (April 5).
“We welcome the stabbing attack which is the first response to the war that Israel is waging in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the intention to make sacrifices. What is to come will be even worse,” Abdul Latif Al-Qanoua, Hamas spokesperson said.
“Israel and the settlers will remain in a state of fear and lack of security,” Al-Qanoua added.

Earlier on Monday, the Palestinian resistance movement warned that the Israeli move to slaughter animal sacrifices in the holy compound “adds fuel to the fire.”
In a statement, Hamas said: “The Zionist settlers’ plans to sacrifice animals and desecrate the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque starting next Wednesday and during the month of Ramadan add fuel to the fire.”
Hamas held the occupation e full responsibility for the repercussions of such move, stressing that Palestinian people won’t “keep mum over the desecration of Al-Aqsa.”
As it warned the Israeli occupation against any “stupid move”, the resistance movement called on Palestinian people be fully ready to defend A-Aqsa and hold Itikaf at the holy compound in a bid to confront the Israeli scheme and foil it.
“We are ready to sacrifice our lives for Al-Aqsa,” the statement added.
